Garmin launches the Masterpiece PDF Print E-mail

Garmin Distribution Africa unveiled its new range of automotive navigators at a media launch at the Rosebank Crowne Plaza hotel in Johannesburg this morning.

Garmin also announced a strategic partnership with NAVTEQ, a global provide of maps, traffic and location data.

Garmin’s new flagship device, the Masterpiece (3790LT) has an elegantly slim design, and at 8.7mm thin, it is the thinnest personal navigation device on the market. It comes with ASR, customisable wake-up command, pinch and tap zooming functionality on the multi-touch capacitive touchscreen and lets you view maps in 3D for terrain, buildings and landmarks (limited coverage in South Africa). Other features include myTrends, lifetime subscription to live traffic and Bluetooth.

The new range from Garmin in the 2xxx series is: Nuvi 2200, 2300, 2360LT and 2460LT and the 37xxx range includes the 3760LT and 3790LT. All these Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs) will come preloaded with NAVTEQ mapping, which according to the company, offers a better and stress-free in-car navigation experience.

The new slim range of 2xxx devices will replace the current 1xxx series and news features include trip planner; park position recall; myTrends, which analyses driving behaviour and ecoRoute to help improve driving habits.

The 23xx and 24xx series will offer ‘lane assist’, which shows you which lane you need to be in and ‘junction view’, which displays generic road signs and overall makes unfamiliar intersections easier to navigate.

Garmin’s live traffic service called, Premium Lifetime Traffic comes with a lifetime subscription on the following devices: Nuvi 2360LT, 2460LT, 3760LT and 3790LT.

Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) lets you control your device with your voice and works on the Nuvi 2360LT, 2460LT and 3790LT.

If you want to use the device in pedestrian mode, the Nuvi 2360LT, 3760LT and 3790LT lets you flip from landscape to portrait, for a more detailed view.

The new range of Garmin products will be available at selected Garmin retailers from April onwards.
