The world ranted and raved about the Apple iPad for many months and when it finally arrived, it took the world by storm.
The latest offering from Steve Jobs’ stronghold sold three million units in its first 80 days on the market. That was little under a month ago, with sales continuing to increase. So what is all the hype for?
It is after all just another portable computer. Or is it? Apple has described it as “the best way to experience the web, email, photos, and video. Hands down.” The iPad is the first fully touch-operated portable computing unit available and it really lives up to its reputation.
It offers a different and refreshingly innovative way to browse the web, play games, listen to music, watch videos and more. But the fun doesn’t stop there. iPad also comes with built in Wi-Fi for work on-the-go.
The newest arrival to South African shores also offers up an additional 3G option which means browsing becomes an anywhere event. Although lacking in some areas in terms of functionality, it’s hard not to fall for the sleek piece of kit. Weighing in at just 0.73Kg and sizing in at just 13.4mm thick, the iPad is no heavyweight which means it can sit comfortably in your desk drawer, on the night stand or in your briefcase, without disturbing any of the other inhabitants of its living space.
It also comes in a range of different storage sizes (16GB, 32GB and 64GB) which means all your videos, music and photos can be stored and accessed on the go, ensuring iPad is really a do-it-all product.
Overall the design is highly attractive and has the trademark Apple “I don’t want it, I need it” look which only makes this buy all the more pleasing.
The iPad also hosts a portable iPod feature, transforming it into an over-sized iPod Touch, which allows the user music on-the-go. Other features include a dedicated YouTube application, a calendar, contacts book, notepad and a map service linked with Google making iPad a real all-rounder.
So whether it’s the smooth, slick “have-to-have” design, the gorgeous LED-backlit 9.7inch screen or the endless world of applications available or a combination of all of these things, the Apple iPad is this year’s hottest piece of tech and it is a must on any web-browser’s wish list.
The iPad Wi-Fi and iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G is now available in South Africa at gline.co.za
