CD Review: Meatloaf - Hang cool teddy bear PDF Print E-mail

Hang cool teddy bear is not Bat out of hell I or II. There is also no involvement by Meatloaf’s songwriter of choice Jim Steinman. So why should you get this album then?

Meatloaf has carved out a niche market for himself over the years and still manages to surprise on a few songs. The strongest track on this album is Los Angeloser which, dare we say, is funky for a man of 63.
With 11 albums under his belt Meatloaf has perfect voice control and maintained the classic rock sound we have come to expect of him. Did you ever love somebody and If it rains are the only songs that sway away from Meatloaf’s normal style of musically telling stories.
With contributions by Jon Bon Jovi and even a collaboration with Jack Black (Like a rose), it is a safe album for fans but it might not bring in any new ones. If you didn’t like Bat out of Hell III then you are going to love Hang cool teddy bear.
Pros: A few solid tracks that stick in your head
Cons: No songs by Jim Steinman
My DigitalLife says: We can’t believe Meatloaf is still making music
