Thursday, 29 April 2010 14:19
South African company Fuseware today released their independent South African Twitter Report for 2010.
Profiling thousands of tweets made by South Africans and using Twitter data from March and April 2010, the report analyses the demographics, trends as well as the top South African Tweeters.
Looking at the tweets themselves, the report found that the average total of tweets per user are 346 at an average character count of 81.4. Clearly we are scared of the number 140.
47% of the tweets are addressing another users, meaning that South Africans have adopted a SMS model to the system. 35-40% of tweets are made using a cellphone with UberTwitter.com, mobile.twitter.com, Snaptu.com and BlackBerry looking to be the most popular mobile platforms for doing so. Only 26% of tweets are made directly from Twitter.com itself.
South Africans in general tweet at night with a slight increase in the early mornings.
Cape Town and Johannesburg contains the most users across the country followed by East London, Pretoria and Durban.
