|Flying drone helps arrest thief|

The Merseyside police were hot on the trail of a suspected car-thief when he took cover in some undergrowth. Undaunted, the cops pulled out their new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which was equipped with an on-board thermal imaging camera. It tracked down the suspected criminal (who was hiding 300 metres away) and the police were able to arrest the suspect.
The Merseyside police force received the UAV in November, making them the first force in the UK to have such a drone. Chief Inspector Nick Gunatilleke told Sky News, "We will use [the drone] whenever we can to support other resources such as the force helicopter and dog patrols in dealing with incidents when they arise."
Such UAVs have been used for a while to perform other tasks, such as search and rescue operations, but this is the first arrest.
The drone can fly to a height of 122 metres and reach a speed of 48kph. It comes with a variety of cameras from ordinary CCTV right through to the thermal-sensing one used for this arrest.
