So how do you start earning money for your blogs?

You have to be appointed an author. If you blog well enough and often enough, the Administrator of myDigitalLife.co.za will promote you to authorship status. If you believe you are a solid candidate, you can email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and request you be considered. You can also suggest other bloggers you believe should be considered.

I'm an Author, now what?

Congratulations! You are well on your way to becoming a famous blogger. You clearly have the talent, the skill and the dedication required for us to feel you're a good investment. To prove us right, and retain your authorship, this is what's required of you:

You are required to blog twice a week to keep your status. The more often you blog, the more money you earn so it really is win-win. If for some reason you will be unable to fulfil this requirement (because you're going on holiday for example, or have exams to concentrate on) then you can email us to make an arrangment.

You need to post original content. Everything quoted from other sites must be credited as such and may not make up the majority of your post. Search companies like Google and Alexa see copied text as plagiarised and penalise us on our ranking. A lower ranking means lower hits for you too. And lower hits means lower money, so it's really in your best interest to keep your content original.

Author blogs should be at least 250 words in length.

You may claim your money as soon as you have over R200. Payouts are done once a month (processed on the 25th).

Hits

Every time a different person clicks on a blog post of yours this is counted as a hit. We have an audit system in place that prevents hits from the same computer being counted more than once - however, we're not stopping you from spreading your genius around the world for others to read. Maximum payment for an article is R10 000 (100 000 hits).

Blogs are weighed according to their category.

Digital Blogs – 1 hit = 20c
Opinion Blogs – 1 hit = 10c
Lifestyle Blogs– 1 hit = 0c

NOTE: Authors currently get 10c/hit across the board. The amounts above will be implemented on the 4th of March, 2010.

BONUS: Click-a-Lot Day

Once a month My Digitial Life has a "Click-a-Lot" day. Authors earn triple their money for all hits generated on this day. ie 30c/hit instead of the usual 20c or 10c/hit.
You will not see the amount immediately, it will reflect the next day.

Categorisation of blogs

Digital blogs are about technology, but they can also be tied to your life. For example:

Please note that while digital blogs can be opinionated, they must be informative too and offer some value to the reader. Some ideas might be tutorials, reviews and news about interesting technology. What we do not consider digital blogs are: questions about technology (with no answers), advertising, or generic complaints (ie "my mouse just stopped working"). With a bit of effort though, such blogs can be turned into informative, valuable pieces that are a pleasure to read.

Opinion blogs offer comment on what's happening in the world. You can use them to voice your opinion on current issues, stir up discussion or even analyse the news. For example:

I know that it's great we're helping Haiti and all, and I don't want to sound selfish, but shouldn't we be looking out for our own country first? We have so many poor and destitute right here and...

Lifestyle blogs are more like a diaries. You can write about anything to do with your life, from bird-watching to your wife's pregnancy. Use this as a space where your readers can get to know about you. For example:

Why do I always suffer from buyers' remorse? I don't understand it. No matter how great the thing I buy, for days afterwards I always find stuff I should have rather spent my money on. Today I bought...

We have created an OPINION section, you can basically give your opinion on news and argue the facts in this section.

Current news is not really our business model.
