Primi Piatti is one of those places where you basically know what you`re going to get in terms of food and it`s all good.

The Italian food is simple and portions are more than sufficient. On our numerous visits we have seen many a take-away box leave tables for the trip home.

The vibe pulsing through the Rosebank branch is something to behold, and true to the restaurant`s marketing line of having `urban energy`. The waiters on this occasion, in their unmistakable bright orange overalls, fed that energy with good, friendly and prompt service. Despite the economic recession, the restaurant was rather full. The menu is quite extensive, with various pastas, meat dishes, salads and vegetable dishes on offer.

The Funghi Neri [Foongi-Neeri] pasta, with black mushrooms saut ed in butter, garlic, white wine, tomato, fresh basil and cream was mouth-watering. So was the home-made bread served with the meal.

But of course we were there to test the WiFi hotspot, so we logged on with our brand-new account generously sponsored by Internet Solutions (IS). Over the steady 54bps connection, through a server in Johannesburg, we clocked a download speed of 0.64Mbps, which meant it took us about a minute to download a music track of about 5MB. Downloading a movie clip (32MB) took 6.5 minutes, so the experience was better than expected. The upload speeds were, as usual, not fantastic and we only got a speed of 0.21Mbps, so it took a while to get a pick-up on Facebook. All in all, with the good food, friendly and energetic waiters, lots of people-watching and an above-average web surfing session, it was a nice lunch.
