|Virtualization for Dummies book review|

Having personally attended more conferences on Virtualization than most people I know in IT, I still had no idea what it truly involved until I read this reference guide.
Virtualization for Dummies is a book that takes the catch phrase and provides a structured meaning for it. It assumes that you know nothing about the topic and serves as a great introduction, whilst also serving as a reference guide if you do have general knowledge.
Why is the IT industry getting so excited about Virtualization anyway?
Modern business in today’s day and age relies more on cost and time saving than ever before. Virtualization plays a vital role in any organization's road forward to implement these goals. This was the message most speakers at the conferences I attended had. The problem I had was that the message made sense but that nobody was actually telling us how to go about the process of implementation. You'd have more luck finding out if aliens landed at Roswell in the US.
This book is a great road map that will explain terms and best practise conditions for any person looking to implement a virtualization project in their company.
It approaches the topic from a variety of angles:
What I like about this book is that it keeps cost saving and performance at the forefront whilst giving you many different options for application. The benefit of having options is knowing that there is more than one way to do it right or that you can adapt a project to your unique needs. The authors have a clear knowledge of the industry and include a few tutorials to get you started.
Graphically, I appreciated this book more than the hundreds of slide show frames I have seen at conferences. The authors took great care to present the concept of virtualization as simply as possible. Sometimes a basic diagram speak volumes and this book is filled with them.
I would recommend this book for dummies and experts. I would also recommend it for CIOs and managers who need to understand why virtualization will benefit their companies. So often you find a gap between what IT does for business and what management requires. Virtualization for Dummies is such a simple read that it talks to both sides and builds bridges to put everybody on the same page.
