Know What's QOOQing With This Kitchen Touchpad PDF Print E-mail

A new touchpad device, designed especially for use in the kitchen, is sure to warm the hearts of culinary geeks everywhere.

While the rest of the world still drools over the mere mention of a certain fruit-flavoured brand's long rumoured tablet, French company UNOWHY has cooked up a 10-inch (25.4 centimetre) touchscreen tablet for the kitchen. Called the QOOQ, it is aimed at coaching and assisting both novice and experienced cooks in dreaming up and preparing meals.

Qooq The QOOQ comes preloaded with 500 interactive recipes from some of the most popular chefs around the world as well as with ten instructional videos. For a monthly fee of ?12.95, users will be able to get access to an additional 2 000 recipes and 500 videos, with 50 new recipes added every month.

That membership will also provide users with unlimited access to a comprehensive culinary guide jam-packed with information about everything from chopping techniques to wine pairing. Other features include intuitive meal planning tools and automated grocery lists.

Since the QOOQ was designed especially to be used in the kitchen, it is spill-proof and slip proof. Users can place it flat on a kitchen countertop where its 'claws' will keep it safely elevated above messy prep areas. Or it can be tilted upright for easier reading and viewing.

But the Wi-Fi enabled device isn't all about cooking. It also includes a radio and weather station and it can even be doubled as a digital picture frame.

The QOOQ has an Ethernet port, a USB port, an SD car reader, a virtual keyboard and 8 GB of built-in memory. Unfortunately the QOOQ's interface and recipes are only available in French for now. So if you know a French-speaking foodie and you have $349 to spare, this gadget will make the perfect gift.

:p

But really, a Tablet PC (with touchscreen) would do all the same thing (and more!) as the QOOQ... In fact, I have used mine in just this way. I was experimenting in making Crème brûlée using some different recipes and techniques found off the web. I was able to browse through each one and thumb back and forwards... Really great fun... :zzz
